What does treasure mean? When you hear this word what do you think of? Surface level, maybe you think of a pirate's treasure chest, full to the brim of gold, silver, and jewels. However, if you give it a deeper thought, what do you really consider as a treasure? I think of a treasure as something so precious that it can't be replicated with money. It could be an experience, a memory, or maybe even a unique feeling that brings you immense joy. I think of treasure as something that inspires wonder like a child cherishing the beauty and magic of dandelion seeds. It's like a little spark of magic that ignites my imagination and takes me on a path of discovery. That's what treasure feels like to me. It's not just something that has material value, but something that touches my soul and fills my heart with joy and inspiration. There is a well-known scripture in the New Testament that is often quoted about treasures. Matt. 6:21 says, 'For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.' So what are the treasures of your heart? Those things deep inside of you that bring you happiness? Here are some things that I treasure: My faith My spouse My children My heritage Sunsets The smell of lilacs Planting seeds Sunshine Writing Creating Baking I could go on. These are simply a few things that come to mind quickly. The question that arises in my mind is whether I am giving my best effort to these said, 'treasures'. Am I putting my heart into quality time with my family? Do I create, write, bake, plant seeds, enjoy sunsets and the smell of lilacs with my whole heart? The other day my sweet toddler dressed up in her Cinderella dress and the second my husband walked through the door, she grabbed both his hands and said, 'Come dance with me, Daddy!' How simple, how easy that could have been to miss. Instead, I want to treasure that memory. I want to remember her messy blond hair, her sweet smile, the way she loves to dance, and the love that she has for her daddy. That could have been just another day my daughter wore dress-up clothes all day instead of her real clothes, or just another day that she wouldn't let me do her hair or just another day that dad walked by too busy to dance. Instead, he paused, took the time to find the right Cinderella song that she wanted, and danced. A mere 3-5 minutes, but what a treasure to watch the joy on my daughter's face, to see my husband be the father I always knew he would be, and remember that messy hair and dress-up clothes will one day fade away and I'll be glad I treasured this small moment.
There are treasures to be had everywhere! Search for them with your heart. Make the journey of discovery part of the joy in finding the treasure. Look for the daily treasures that are waiting for you. It is a Gift to take 'Time to Treasure.'
